Where Thanjavur's kitchens meet North York's tables
Thanjai Chola takes its name from Thanjavur, the ancient capital of the Chola dynasty and home to the Brihadeeswarar Temple. That city's kitchens fed thousands during festival season — generous, unhurried, deeply spiced. That's the cooking we brought with us.
Every dish on our menu is made the way it would be made at home: kolambu simmered for hours, dosa batter ground fresh daily, masalas built from family proportions passed down rather than bottled. Nothing here is a shortcut.
Today Thanjai Chola serves the North York community from our counter at the Wilson Avenue Food Court — same recipes, same care, just a shorter queue than festival season.

Kolambu and kootu are given the hours they need. The counter moves fast — the pot never does.
Batter, masala pastes and stocks are made in-house, daily, from raw ingredients — not powders or pre-mix.
Vegetarian kolambu gets the same care as the biryani. Nothing on our menu is an afterthought.
